Hez....couple of quick questions/points.
Here are a couple of my observations. These are the 4th down rules.
Going on 4th Down: We encourage straight play in this league, however, we do not want to limit players to the point where they cannot play aggressively. With that in mind, there will be a simple rule on 4th downs:
A. If the ball is past your 40 yard line with 1 yard or less to go, you are permitted to for it on 4th down.
B. If you have 4th and 5 or less and the ball is between the opponents 35 and 45 yard line. Anything closer than the 35 yard line (expect C and D below) is within field goal range. Anything further is a punting situation (unless it falls into A).
C. If you are behind by two touchdowns or more in the second half, you can go for it whenever you like.
D. If you are the losing team in the 4th quarter, you can go for it whenever you like.
In many of my user games these rules are being bent. I wasn't sure of the rules and I actually punted yesterday when I would have loved to go for a 4th and inches, because I didn't want to piss anyone off. I have not had a problem with any of the situations where the guys have gone for it because they were logical football decisions, but it has the potential to create some hard feelings. Are these hard set in stone rules or are they like the speed limit? I think they should be set in stone to limit issues.
A. I think it is fine but maybe move the line to the 50. Defenses need some help.
B. I know guys have had problems with bad kickers or wind. Maybe the line should be the 30. If I have a 51yd FG(from the 34) it's dicey. Also this rules seems to imply that if you are inside the 35 and it is 4th and 2 or more you can't go for it. This can cause some strategy issues if you are ahead slightly and want to score.
C. fine
D. fine
Just my 2 cents.
Also for clarification or just a discussion point, I know that several of us (me included this year) have a 2 qb system for different packages. It is realistic football as seen with Spurrier over the years and most famously Leak/Tebow, but I'm not sure as the rule is written if it is something we should be doing. I don't have a strong feeling either way as long as everyone is doing the same thing.
As for piling on the stats......if I could ever score over 30pts I'll have that decision... for now I'll continue on knowing this will never be a problem for me and having no idea how everyone else is able to get there.
